Ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has changed the political dynamics and calculation with his defection from the main opposition party, the People Democratic Party (PDP), to the ruling All Progressives Congress on February 27, 2026.
The governor, in a statewide broadcast on Friday, announced that he joined the APC alongside members of his cabinet and officials of the PDP in the state, describing the decision as being in the developmental interest of Adamawa residents.
Following Fintiri’s move, the ruling APC now has control of 30 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, while the PDP is now left with just three states, namely, Oyo, Bauchi and Zamfara.
The remaining three states, Anambra is under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while Abia State is under the Labour Party, and Osun State is controlled by the Accord Party.
