Dino Malaye, spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council, has stated that the political careers of the party’s five aggrieved governors will come to an end if they refuse to support the party’s presidential candidate.
According to Daily Trust, the G-5, a group comprising disgruntled governors, reached an agreement in London to support Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governors Nyesom Wike of the Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia make up the G-5.
According to the five disgruntled governors, Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, must step down as both the PDP candidate and chairman cannot be from the same region.
In an interview with Arise TV, Dino Malaye claimed that the disgruntled governors had no basis for withdrawing their support for Atiku and that doing so would amount to political suicide on their part.
He said: “They (the G-5 governors) have no reason whatsoever to say they’re not going to support the candidate of their party. But I’ve made the statement that if they fail to support the presidential candidate of their party, and they themselves are running for elections, then they should be ready to celebrate their political obituaries.
“Every part of this country including their various States, candidates and party faithful, even APC members have decided that they’re going to vote for the winning team, and that is the Atiku-Okowa ticket.
“About three of them are interested in going to the Senate, and one of them wants to return as governor under the PDP. So I don’t know what diabolic means they will use to dump the presidential candidate of their party and then advocate for another candidate outside their party. That will be a new trend in politics globally.
“So I advise that they don’t go that way because if they do, I want to say politically, they will be like a dying horse doing the last kick.”
