Justice K. B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court has set Tuesday, January 13, 2025, to rule on the bail motion submitted by Olori Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, and Abdulahi Fasasi.
The trio were arrested and remanded in prison detention in December 2024 for causing a stampede that killed 35 children during a children’s funfair they organized on December 20 in Ibadan, the state capital.
Counsel for the suspects had filed a summons and application for bail with the Court. After hearing the Counsels’ submissions and arguments on points of law, Justice Olawoyin deferred the verdict on the bail application until Tuesday, 13th Tuesday, 2025.
The suspects are currently being held at the Nigerian Correctional Centre Agodi.
The counsels pleaded their claims separately in a five-hour hearing. The state has filed a counter-application against the accused’ bail.
Mr. Abiodun Aikomo, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, led the state team, which included top Ministry of Justice personnel.
In their respective arguments, all of the Counsels explained to the court why their clients should be allowed to enjoy their freedom, pointing out that there is insufficient evidence to justify their incarceration in prison.
