JAMB Extends Public University Admissions Deadline To November 17

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sanctioned an elongation for wrapping up the 2025 admissions procedure for state-owned universities.

The cutoff date has been shifted from the original Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025.

As per a communiqué issued by the board’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the resolution was essential owing to arising and persuasive situations that were obstructing the prompt finalization of admissions by certain establishments.

This revised deadline supersedes the one endorsed at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, which had originally established the termination date for public universities as October 31.

This schedule is tactically significant since it grants other higher education bodies—including private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions, adequate opportunity to complete their individual admissions prior to the comprehensive national conclusion date of December 31, 2025.

JAMB pointed out that the prolongation turned unavoidable for two main causes:

  1. Court-Ordered Disruption: The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) requested an extension after interruptions stemming from a court directive that briefly suspended the 2025/2026 admission process. This restraining order was removed only very lately, on October 28, 2025.
  2. New Academic Programmes: The National Universities Commission (NUC) lately authorized 229 new academic programmes throughout 37 universities on October 29, 2025. This advancement required a renewed timetable for admissions into these freshly sanctioned courses.

The board underlined that this extension is vital to guarantee equity and comprehensiveness for every aspiring student.

While applauding the institutions that labored diligently to achieve the original deadline, JAMB highlighted that this updated date of Monday, November 17, 2025, is definitive and obligatory. All public universities are encouraged to guarantee complete adherence.

Dr. Benjamin reconfirmed that JAMB continues dedicated to upholding a clear and trustworthy admission process that advances national education objectives while honoring the independence of the institutions.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
