Morocco has topped Group F at the 2022 World Cup after a 2-1 victory against Canada on December 1.

The North African nation defeated Canada comfortably thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri in the first half.

Morocco was placed in the same group as Croatia and Belgium, who came second and third in the 2018 World Cup.

The African team defeated Canada in their final group match, leading the table with 7 points against the European teams.

Morocco would have dropped to second if Croatia defeated Belgium in their matchup, which took place at the same time Morocco played Canada.

Morocco has not advanced to the round of 16 at a World Cup since 1986 and Canada is competing in its first World Cup since 1986.

Also, this is the first time since 1998 that Belgium has missed out on making it to the Round of 16.

Morocco will now face the Group E runners-up, either Spain, Japan, Costa Rica, or Germany,
