Motherhood: Five Important Roles A Mother Plays In The Home 4

Hello Great Mothers! We began the discussion on the second role of the mother in the home. We discussed that mothers are the first teachers of their children. This means that children are expected to learn some important values at home, not in school.

In our present world, it is more important now than ever to teach our children these important but correct values from home so as not to be corrupted by the wrong values of the world. When the child is taught early from home, the child will be able to influence the world positively.

This responsibility lies more on the mothers because we spend more time with our kids. To properly teach these values as a mother, you must not only teach but practice what you teach, i.e you must be a good role model to your children. Children mainly learn values by watching their parent’s example, hence why it is so important to set a good example for them. Practice the values you wish to see in your children.

The values children are expected to be taught from home by mothers are;

Honesty: as earlier stated, children’s minds are very sensitive. So, they practice what they see and hear. If you lie, your child will think that lying is good. When your child tells lies, don’t yell at him/her. Explain to the child the importance of telling the truth. Also, when your child says the truth, appreciate his/ her honesty. This helps the behavior to continue.

2) Good Manners: this helps the child to interact and relate well with people in a more considerate and thoughtful way. These values must be taught very early in the child’s life. The child imitates and practices as she grows.

More of these will be discussed in my next article.
