The Silent Cry of an Exhausted Mum – and How to Get Out of It

Sometimes, mothers don’t cry with real tears — they cry with tired eyes, heavy hearts, and quiet sighs in the middle of the night. You go to bed tired and still wake up feeling tired. You cook, clean, and take care of everyone… Yet deep inside there’s an unspoken exhaustion you can’t explain. That is the silent cry of a tired mother — and many women are living in it without even realising it.

It usually begins with small things. You skip a meal because you’re busy serving everyone else. You push aside your own needs and say to yourself, “just for today” — but somehow it keeps happening. You convince yourself that rest is a luxury you can’t afford because there’s always so much to do. Eventually, functioning on empty strength and with no passion becomes your normal. Hmm… dear mother, watch it — you are exhausted, you’re not just admitting it.

Here are a few clear signs that you might be silently exhausted:

● You’re always tired, even after sleeping

● You get irritated easily, snap over little things, and find yourself nagging more often

● You feel disconnected from yourself — like you’re just moving from one task to another and living only for your home

● You miss the woman you used to be before motherhood

You need to hear this: exhaustion is not a requirement for being a good mother. It’s a warning sign. If you ignore it, it gradually steals your joy and turns love and sacrifice into a heavy burden.”

So how do you get out of it?

● Acknowledge it — it’s not a weakness, it’s honesty

● Take small steps to refill yourself: breathe in and out, intentionally create little time for yourself, pray, journal, listen to music, watch your favourite program, or sit quietly.

● Ask for help — even strong mothers need support

Reintroduce simple things that bring you joy… read a book, write, sing, listen to music, go for a short walk.

You don’t need a big vacation to recover — small, intentional steps can gradually restore your strength.
