Motherhood: Teaching Children How To Pray 6

Hello Great Mothers!

When children are asked to pray, they can appear to be at a loss for words, either because they are certain that the “BIG GOD” who lives far away in heaven has no time for them or would not even listen to them, or because they don’t know what to say or how to pray.

This is why it is expected of us as mothers to start teaching our kids how to pray at a young age—even from preschool. Early guidance in prayer helps children develop a faith in God that allows them to freely approach him in prayer as they grow older. They revere God, and they won’t want to engage in any behavior that could harm the relationship that they have established with Him.

Teach them to pray for others:
This is important, as it will teach them to always seek the interest of others too, and not only themselves. They learn to care for others. Through this, they also learn that they are not limited to praying for themselves alone.

You can teach your children how to pray for others by using the five-finger technique.

Thumb: Their parents, family members, or close friends.

Index finger: Their teachers, (school and five-finger nanny,

Middle finger: A school administrator or the head of the nation.

Ring finger: A person who is having challenges, or is sick. This could be a family member, a friend, or a neighbor.

Pinky finger: Themselves.

As we introduce our children to prayers, we must constantly teach them that;

● God loves them dearly and is always ready to listen to them.
● He always listens to their sincere words.
● He hears all their prayers.
● He can be prayed to anytime, and anywhere.
● He can be prayed to in any situation; when happy or unhappy.
● Therefore, feel free to approach God in prayers, anytime and anywhere.

Lastly, instill in them the belief that by consistently praying to God, they will always stay near to Him and experience His blessings and protection.
