NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Fake Sachet Cowbell Our Milk In Circulation

Published on

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about the presence of fake Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet milk circulating in Nigeria.

A statement issued by the agency on August 22 revealed that Promasidor, the Marketing Authorisation Holder and Manufacturer of Cowbell, ceased production of Cowbell “Our Milk” in September 2023, replacing it with Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness”.

The agency clarified that the counterfeit products currently in circulation are imitations of the discontinued “Our Milk” packaging and are neither produced nor distributed by Promasidor. It noted that these fake products illegally use the brand name, NAFDAC Registration Number, and packaging design without authorization.

NAFDAC warned that consuming counterfeit milk can lead to significant health risks, including exposure to harmful chemicals, unapproved additives, or diluted ingredients. Potential dangers include foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and, in extreme cases, death. Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are especially at risk.

Counterfeit Product Details:

•Product Name: Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet

•Purported Manufacturer: Promasidor Nigeria Ltd

•Production Date: 04/2025

•Expiry Date: 12/2028

NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspected sales of substandard or counterfeit food products to the nearest NAFDAC office, contact the toll-free number 0800-162-3322, or send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
