New York City Offering $170,000 Pay To Get Rid Of Rats

New York City is reportedly in need of a top-notch exterminator to get rid of the 18 million rats living in the state.

There were reportedly two rats to one person in New York as of 2014, putting the rodent numbers at almost 18 million.

New York is now in search of a Director of Rodent Migration, and the hiring price is up to $170,000 (£140,000).

The hilarious requirement states that candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and a “general aura of badassery.”

Anyone applying for the position should also have a “virulent vehemence for vermin” and the “drive, determination, and killer instinct needed to fight the real enemy – New York City’s relentless rat population.”

The rest of the advertisement read: “Cunning, voracious, and prolific, New York City’s rats are legendary for their survival skills, but they don’t run this city – we do.”

Giving a speech at last month’s bill signing, Mayor Eric Adams said: “I’ve made it clear I hate rats and we’re gonna kill some rats. We’re putting a dent in our rodent problem.”

The Sanitation Department is also trying to raise money by offering t-shirts for $48 (£39) each, with the following slogan: “This city is not run by rats. We do.”
