Nigeria Gets Green Light: UK, US, France Approve Ambassadors

Nigeria has received approval from 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and France, for its newly appointed ambassadors-designate. This development marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s diplomatic efforts, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration working to strengthen ties with key nations.

The approved ambassadors-designate include Ayodele Oke to France, Colonel Lateef Are to the United States, and Amin Dalhatu as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. These appointments are part of a larger batch of 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify the respective governments of these countries, in accordance with established diplomatic procedures. This move is expected to enhance Nigeria’s global representation and foster stronger bilateral relations.

The approved ambassadors will undergo an induction program to prepare them for their roles. This development comes as Nigeria seeks to fill critical diplomatic vacancies and boost its international presence.

The countries that have approved Nigeria’s ambassadors-designate include Ireland, Qatar, the Republic of Benin, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, in addition to the UK, US, and France.

President Tinubu’s administration has been working to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic ties, and this approval is a significant step in that direction. The president has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure a smooth transition and notify the respective governments.
