Zainab Oldehinde, a Nigerian woman, has told the harrowing account of being almost raped inside her hotel room in Zanzibar, Tanzania, where she was celebrating her birthday.
In a Twitter thread, Zainab said that she landed in the country on April 16, 2021, and that by the night of April 17 into her birthday, April 18, a man had broken into her room, which she thought was locked, and attempted to rape her. She described herself as horrified as her entire life passed before her eyes as she pictured the man rapping, killing, and dumping of her body in the body of water in front of the hotel. She claimed that her only saving grace was that she pretended to be HIV positive and agreed to have sex with him if he wore a condom.
According to Zainab, the man left her hotel and promised to return with a condom. She claimed that this was the opportunity she needed to flee the room. She also stated that the hotel personnel attempted to conceal the incident and accused her of lying.
