NLC, TUC To Begin Nationwide Strike Midnight

Today, November 13, at midnight, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), have decided to start the scheduled statewide strike.

In response to the attack on the NLC President and others in Owerri, Imo State on November 1st, as well as the ongoing labour disputes in Imo State, the labour unions decided to go on strike.

On November 7, they decided that if their demands were not met, they would call for a nationwide strike by Tuesday, November 14.

Remember that on November 1, when the Labour leaders and others had gathered at the Nigeria Labour Congress State secretariat to begin a scheduled protest over unresolved Labour issues, suspected state agents and security operatives had descended on Ajaero alongside other Labour leaders, smashing their vehicles, injuring them, and taking away their phones, cash, and ATM cards among other valuables.

The National Minimum Wage Act non-compliance, pensions, gratuities, and unpaid wages and allowances were among the issues that the NLC President, other national leaders, and their TUC counterparts were protesting at the NLC state secretariat in Owerri.
