Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and a presidential candidate for the Labour Party, was spotted distributing meals to attendees at a public event today, July 10, 2025.
Obi is seen lugging trays full of dishes of pork, fried rice, and jollof rice in pictures that have gone viral.
He distributed food to guests, including old women, while moving from table to table in a basic black local dress.
Under a big, festive canopy, the event seemed to be a community get-together with a wide range of attendees.
Online responses to Obi’s gesture have been overwhelmingly positive. Supporters hailed the action as yet another manifestation of his people-centeredness and humility.
However, detractors characterized it as a well-planned political ploy.
“He’s the only politician who makes humility look genuine,” one user posted. Another wrote, “This is nothing but theatrics. Nigerians deserve substance, not optics.”
