Peter Okoye Reveals Why He Can’t Buy Akara On The Streets

Afrobeats artist Peter Okoye, better known by his stage name as Mr. P and half brother of the legendary musical duo P-Square, has spoken out about the drawbacks of celebrity, stating that after working in the entertainment business for almost thirty years, he now longs to return to a normal life.

In an interview with Naija FM, Peter Okoye disclosed that, although he used to pray for fame and success, he now wears sunglasses, facemasks, and face caps to hide his identity from fans.

In his words;

“Before, we used to pray for fame, but now when I go out or travel, I cover my face with a facemask, a face cap, and even sunglasses to avoid being spotted,” he said.

“There are days I want to stop by the roadside and buy food like hot akara, but I have to send someone else. By the time the person gets back, it’s no longer hot. I miss that life,” he added, calling such simple pleasures the “best burger ever.”

Maintaining a certain public image is essential for many celebrities. Avoiding public appearances during routine activities like buying food helps control their image and avoid unintended publicity.
