Police Commend Anambra Resident For Filming Abduction In Akwa

The Anambra State Police Command has praised the courage of an Awka resident who put his safety at risk to record a video depicting an apparent kidnapping in progress, significantly assisting police efforts to investigate the crime.

The video, which has since spread widely online, shows three armed men operating in a stainless-coloured Toyota Highlander SUV without a number plate. The footage captures the suspects firing shots recklessly before abducting an unidentified victim in the early hours of Friday, June 27.

In a statement issued on Saturday, June 28, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the command is utilizing the video for investigative purposes. He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the bravery of the individual who recorded the crime, noting that it is greatly contributing to the ongoing rescue efforts.

“This is aiding the rescue operations and potentially helping to save the kidnapped victim,” Orutugu said, describing the act as a powerful demonstration of community involvement in crime-fighting.

The police stated that the video could assist in identifying the suspects, gathering evidence, and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the command also reported the recovery of the body of Mr. Chido Ozor, a kidnap victim abducted on June 19 from his piggery farm in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. Ikenga said police had been tracking the suspects but discovered Ozor’s body near his farm on June 23.

Investigations are continuing, and the police have encouraged the public to keep supporting security efforts by providing credible information that could lead to arrests and help prevent further crimes.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
