Pope Francis Receives Ukraine’s Zelensky In The Vatican

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, met with Pope Francis in private on Friday at the Vatican. The major topic of discussion was the release of detainees.

According to a statement made by the president on Telegram, Zelensky petitioned the pope for assistance for adults and children detained by Russia.

Following their meeting, he talked with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin on ways to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine and establish a fair and lasting peace.

According to the Holy See, the chief diplomat for the Vatican voiced concerns about the humanitarian situation there.

According to the Holy See, Zelensky gave the head of the Catholic Church a painting titled “The Bucha Massacre” during the 30-minute encounter.

It is Zelensky’s third visit to the Vatican.

In the course of the war, launched by Russia in February 2022, Pope Francis has repeatedly reminded the public of what he calls the “martyred Ukraine.”

But some of his comments on the war, including calls for a peace deal, have met with criticism in Kiev.
