Portugal defeated Spain in a thrilling final on June 8 at the Allianz Arena in Munich to win the 2025 UEFA Nations League.
With goals from Nuno Mendes and Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal and Martín Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal for Spain, the game concluded 2–2 after extra time.
Ronaldo’s equalizer in the last minutes of regular time was his 138th goal for his country. Portugal won 5–3 because they converted all five of their kicks while Spain missed only one.
After winning the UEFA Nations League in 2019, Portugal has now won the league twice. With 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo captaining Portugal against Spain’s adolescent sensation, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, the game was billed as a generational matchup.
