Russia Bans Foreign-made Clothing For Army From 2026

On August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree banning the use of foreign-manufactured military uniforms for the Russian Armed Forces starting January 1, 2026, and mandating that all fabrics and materials be domestically sourced beginning in 2027.

The decree instructs the Russian government, Ministry of Defense, and Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure that all clothing and equipment for the armed forces are produced by Russian companies operating within the country. By 2027, the materials used must also be manufactured on Russian territory.

It is uncertain whether this prohibition will apply to close allies like Belarus and Kazakhstan, both part of the same free trade bloc. The countries currently providing Russian military uniforms have not been publicly identified, though Radio Free Asia previously noted that North Korea supplied uniforms as recently as late 2022.

Per that report, Russia provided materials to North Korea, where the uniforms were made in Pyongyang factories before being transported back to Russia by rail. In 2024, the two nations signed a mutual defense treaty, deepening military and trade ties, with Pyongyang supplying troops, weapons, and munitions to aid Moscow’s war in Ukraine in exchange for resources and technological support.

It remains unknown whether North Korea has continued to supply uniforms since 2022 or if the new decree will impact trade relations between the two countries.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
