Speeding Truck K!lls Pedestrian In Lagos

A woman walking on a sidewalk was fatally struck by a black Toyota Tundra truck that ran her over at Mosalasi roundabout on Newa Ipaja Road in the Ipaja area of Lagos on Saturday, June 7.

The truck, with registration number FST 222 HV, allegedly swerved off the roadway at high speed, climbed onto the pedestrian path, and hit the woman, resulting in her immediate death. The collision also drove the vehicle into a nearby livestock business, causing significant damage to the perimeter fence and an adjacent advertising billboard.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver tried to escape the scene but was promptly detained by officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who then turned him over to police from the Gowon Estate Command for further investigation.

The body of the deceased was retrieved and handed over to the Police Force, while the driver remains in custody for questioning.

Addressing the tragic event, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sadness and offered condolences to the victim’s family.

“This is a deeply sorrowful occurrence that underscores the grave consequences of reckless driving. We mourn with the family of the deceased and pray earnestly that the Almighty grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss” he said.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
