Super Eagles Defeat Libya In AFCON Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Libya 1-0 on Friday after a fierce battle in the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo.

The team’s record in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tournament now stands at seven points from three games.

Aiming for a draw, Libya went on the defense, but Nigeria’s perseverance paid off in the 86th minute when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru converted Moses Simon’s cross from the bench, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium erupted in celebration.

Augustine Eguavoen, the interim head coach, won the game for the second time in three AFCON 2025 qualifiers.

With seven points more than Benin Republic (six), Rwanda (two), and Libya (one), the Super Eagles are now leading Group D. Nigeria and Libya will rematch at Benina on Tuesday.
