The Idea Of Going Our Separate Ways Came From Don Jazzy – D’banj

Well-known musician D’banj has gone back to discuss the events that resulted in the dissolution of the legendary Mo’Hits Records, disclosing that the choice to end their collaboration originated completely from his previous associate and music producer, Don Jazzy.

During his appearance on the most recent installment of the Mic On podcast, which is presented by Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj stated that Don Jazzy was “100 per cent responsible” for the division that surprised the entire Nigerian entertainment scene back in 2012.

As he explained it, he would not have modified a single aspect of their partnership since the initiative to pursue individual directions did not start with him at all.

“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. The idea to go our separate ways came from Don Jazzy which is why we are still cool,” D’banj said.

In addition, he shared the information that Don Jazzy transferred complete control of his music collection to him following their separation.

“Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… It was a journey for me, even though he had his opinion, I knew that we needed to cement that global movement and I’m glad that even after, God still did it for us with ‘Oliver Twist’, which was the last record we released together,” he added.

D’banj emphasized that he holds absolutely no remorse regarding the breakup, noting that it was meant to occur in that manner. Nevertheless, he confessed that the single element he longs for is the special creativity involved in producing tracks alongside Don Jazzy.

He mentioned that the parting allowed each of them to venture into fresh opportunities and directions, yet the influence they created as a team, particularly during their time with Mo’Hits, represents an enduring achievement that he will forever value and hold dear.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
