Melanie Robbins is a best-selling author, popular podcaster, and highly sought-after motivational speaker who was a former television host and lawyer. She is widely known for her work in personal development and motivation. She has written numerous books and sold millions. Examples of her books are; New York Times Best-Seller ‘The High 5 Habit’ and ‘The 5 Second Rule’.

Mel was born on October 6, 1968. in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from high school, Mel proceeded to Dartmouth College to study law. She then went to Boston College Law School and graduated with a professional degree in law in 1994.

In her early years, she struggled with anxiety and self-doubt. She later developed the “5 Second Rule” to overcome hesitation and take action. The idea behind the rule is that whenever you are hesitant or realize you need to accomplish something, you immediately begin counting down from five, and when you reach one, you take prompt and intentional action on that “thing” you had been putting off or understand you need to accomplish.

She rose to fame after her TEDx talk, “How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over,” which went viral in 2011 and received millions of views. This speech brought her to the limelight and launched her career as a well-known motivational speaker and author.

Mel Robbins’ work focuses on empowering people to overcome obstacles, take control of their lives, and effect positive change through simple yet powerful strategies. Her journey, from her struggles to when she became a public figure, serves as an inspiration to many who are attempting to overcome their obstacles.

Her other works, aside from the ‘5 Second Rule’ are;

i) “Stop Saying You’re Fine: The No-BS Guide to Getting What You Want”: She published this book in 2011. It delves into the psychological reasons why people often settle for “fine” rather than following their dreams. It also offers ways to break free from this mindset.
ii) “Take Control of Your Life: How to Silence Fear and Win the Mental Game”. This is a workbook. It provides practical exercises and guidance to help people overcome fear and self-doubt.

Mel is married to Christopher Robbins and they have three children together: two daughters named Oakley and Sawyer, as well as a son named Kendall.
