Former US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and other Democrats, including the Democratic National Party, alleging that they colluded to sabotage his 2016 campaign by falsely linking him to Russia.
Trump defeated Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, but his latest lawsuit accuses her of “racketeering” and other allegations as part of an “unthinkable plot” to derail his campaign.
Trump’s campaign and transition staff were being accused of colluding with Russian operatives to sway the election in Trump’s favor.
In 2020, a US Senate committee accused Russia of attempting to assist Trump win by using Republican political operative Paul Manafort and the WikiLeaks website, but it did not accuse Trump of conspiring with the Russians.
The allegations had no proof of a conspiracy, but it did say that Trump may have obstructed justice while in office.
Trump has alleged that there was a Democratic plot to destabilize his presidency by implying his team had sinister ties to Russia, is now seeking $24 million (£18 million) in damages.
Trump’s legal complaint, which was filed on March 24, claims that “in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Mrs. Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot – one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy.
“Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty.”
The complaint names former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former FBI Director James Comey, and Democratic political consultant John Podesta.
A two-year investigation into Russia’s alleged election meddling was led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
The former president’s case is a strong one as the evidence of ties between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives recorded by Robert Mueller’s special counsel has been revealed to be false by the US Department Of Justice.
