Two Arrested As NDLEA Raids Lagos Shrine, Recovers Cannabis

Operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, detained Gbenga and Sunday Abiodun, two suspects, after raiding a shrine used to conceal illegal substances in Lagos.

The agency spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed this in a statement on Sunday, October 27, 2024, stating that a strain of cannabis and giant bags of Ghanaian Loud were found near the shrine at Alfa Beach in the state’s Ajah region.

“NDLEA operatives in Lagos on Friday 25th October raided the Igbo – Igunuko shrine, located at the Alfa Beach, Ajah, where jumbo bags of Ghanaian Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 2,760kg were recovered and two suspects: Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun arrested,” the statement read.

“Another suspect, Ademola Oyelakin was also arrested same day with 770kg of the same psychoactive substance along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.”

Meanwhile, in Plateau, suspect Fadan Bindom, 39, was apprehended in Pilgani village with 18 grams of tramadol and 65.85 kg of cannabis, and suspect Sunday Agbata, 42, was apprehended at Pavwei-Rayfield Jos South LGA on Wednesday, October 23, with 5,830 tablets and ampoules of injections of pentazocine, diazepam, and bromazepam.

At Ewu junction, Irrua, Esan Central LGA in Edo state, NDLEA agents found 640 kg of cannabis hidden in 80 jumbo bags of fresh vegetables. They also detained a 27-year-old suspect named Austin Oruamen, and on Thursday, October 24, they apprehended another suspect, Adereti Kazeem, 35, who was found in possession of 200 blocks of cannabis weighing 133 kg in Obalayan, Ile-Ife, Osun state.
