US Singer Ciara Officially Becomes A Beninese Citizen, Declares “Je suis béninoise”

The Republic of Benin has awarded citizenship to American artist Ciara.

On Monday, July 28, the Grammy-winning artist announced the news on her Instagram site.

She disclosed that Friday, July 26, the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, was the day of the celebration.

Ciara claimed that she was honored to be the first individual to be granted citizenship under the nation’s new nationality program and that she could trace her ancestry back to Benin.

President Patrice Talon and several high-ranking government officials welcomed her.

“Je suis béninoise,” Ciara declared in one of the videos from her visit.

The singer also expressed gratitude to the Beninese people for what she called a warm welcome.

“Thank you Benin for opening your arms and your heart to me. See you soon,” she wrote.

Online discussions about identity, roots, and reconnection have been triggered by her visit and new status.

Congratulations on your new citizenship! Wishing you all the best as you embark on this exciting new chapter of your life.
