Wike Clarifies Stance On Military, Addresses Recent Encounter With Soldiers In Abuja

In the wake of his recent clash with soldiers in Abuja, Wike has emphasized that he holds no ill will towards the military.

He clarified that his concerns are rooted in ensuring accountability and maintaining peace, reaffirming his respect for the armed forces while addressing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Let me make it clear I do not have any problem with the military and will never have. I have great respect for the institution and for the sacrifices they make to keep our nation safe,” he said.

Addressing his comments during the heated confrontation which broke out on Tuesday in Abuja after soldiers prevented him and his entourage from accessing a parcel of land in the Gaduwa district, Wike said his words were taken out of context as he was only advocating for lawful conduct and adherence to constitutional principles by all security operatives.

“What I said was simple no officer or individual should carry out an illegal order. If an instruction is unlawful, you have the right to say no. That does not mean I have a problem with the military.

“As FCT Minister, I have continued to provide support to the military in their operations. Anyone saying otherwise is simply not telling the truth.

“The military is an institution I will always respect. They have sacrificed so much for this country, and they deserve our full support,”
 Wike clarified.

Wike also urged journalists to uphold professionalism and accuracy in their reportage, warning against sensationalism and misrepresentation of facts.

“I want journalists to always verify facts and report accurately. Do not cut or misquote statements to suit headlines. Let us focus on what builds our country,”
 he urged.
