Yahaya Bello Released After Meeting Bail Conditions

After fulfilling the requirements for bail established by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was released from Kuje Custodial Center.

Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, verified this to PUNCH Online on Friday night.

Duza said, “Yahaya Bello has been released after meeting the bail conditions. He was released this evening (Friday).”

“The Controller of NCoS FCT, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was on the ground to ensure his smooth release and that all protocols were observed.”

Justice MaryAnne Anenih awarded Bello N500 million in bail on Thursday. Three sureties who each owned real estate in a few high-value neighborhoods of Abuja, such Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro, were required to meet the requirements.

Additionally, the court limited Bello’s ability to travel outside of Nigeria without prior authorization and ordered him to turn in his passport.

The former governor is charged with 16 counts of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and other offenses alongside Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu.
