Yemi Alade, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, has revealed the reasons behind her multilingual singing, citing her success with the song “Johnny.”
The artist says she made the choice after “Johnny” gained international attention, especially in Paris, France, in a recent interview with CNN.
Alade revealed that she adopted various languages because she wanted to “communicate” with her varied audience.
“Paris is one of the cities that opened its borders to my music, and I fell in love with French even more.
“I wanted to communicate, so I decided to make versions of my songs in other languages. That’s how the love story with languages started,” she said.
On being one of the 2025 Grammy nominees, Alade stated that it feels like a miracle.
“Being nominated for Grammy feels so surreal. It’s a good time to be alive.
“I almost thought this moment might never come. I felt seen and it reassured me that anybody out there can become anything.
“You just have to believe and not stop even if the world wants you to.”
Congratulations Mama Africa! We are so proud of you. Keep Winning!!!
