EMBRACE AND PRACTICE THE LIVING FAITH
In the vibrant second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews, we encounter Abraham, not just a man, but a monumental figure of faith from Old Testament times—celebrated by the Roman Canon as our father in faith! The heroes of the Old Testament stand out, their lives radiating obedience to God’s divine will and their unwavering commitment to His laws as they were revealed in those times. Abraham truly seized the revelation of God’s blessings, laying it as the cornerstone of his existence!
This remarkable quality defines all the heroes and heroines of our rich Catholic heritage. The Calendar of the Catholic Church is alive with a dazzling array of characters—Sancti and Beati—whose feasts we joyously celebrate. Look around our congregation today, and you’ll see a reflection of that incredible diversity! Each one of us holds the potential to embody the sanctity of the twelve Apostles, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, Teresa and Margaret Mary, as well as Maximilian Kolbe and Faustina, and shining figures like St. Edith Stein and St. Joseph Marello. What’s standing in our way? Though God has graciously bestowed upon us the kingdom, we often hesitate to grasp it fully and live by its profound demands.
The message from today’s gospel hits home with undeniable clarity! Our Lord reminds us that the riches of the kingdom are not gifts to be squandered, reshaped, or diluted to fit the whims of modern life. Instead, He warns of the consequences awaiting those who neglect to protect these divine treasures. Thankfully, in the face of this profound challenge, the Catholic Church stands unwavering—a rock-solid and spirit-filled guide—empowering us to thrive as authentic citizens of the kingdom. Here, within the embrace of the Church, as we delve into Our Lord’s teachings and strive to live them with passion, we unlock the true happiness that exists within the Church Militant and, by God’s grace, we can aspire to join the ranks of the Church Expectant.
Almighty God, we beseech you to look upon your family, the Church, with mercy! Ignite a genuine love among us and guide us safely to eternal life alongside the angels and saints. We ask this through Christ, our Lord! Let’s embrace this journey together with enthusiasm and faith!
