According to Billboard, 2Baba’s 2004 smash single “African Queen” is the best Afrobeats song ever.
Yesterday, the magazine unveiled their list of the 50 Greatest Afrobeats Songs of All Time, honoring songs that have influenced the genre due to its global appeal, cultural relevance, and economic success.
“African Queen,” hailed for its compassionate appreciation and memorable music video, is “a love letter to a generation of women from the continent,” according to Billboard.
According to the journal, many people anticipated that 2Baba would succeed as a solo artist after Plantashun Boiz broke up in 2004, but few anticipated the magnitude of the impact his debut single would have.
In addition to being a groundbreaking song at the time, it was featured on the soundtrack of the 2006 Mo’Nique-directed movie “Affirming Its International reach.
