Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has unveiled a massive record of over 10,000 milestones achieved in his first term, declaring that Enugu State is on an “irreversible path of greatness” towards a $30 billion economy.
The achievements were contained in a compendium titled “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State”, presented to the public on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.
Represented by Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah said the document aligns with his Citizens Charter, Executive Order 001, signed on May 29, 2023, to entrench accountability, traceability and transparency.
The compendium highlights key interventions including:
– 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads
– 7,000 classrooms built or renovated
– 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres
– Enugu Air – the state-owned airline
– New Enugu Smart City
– Revamp of moribund state assets
Mbah noted that the document does not capture everything done so far because there was a cut-off point months before the unveiling.
“This document does not in any particular material represent the actual successful modest achievements of this government as at 9th of September 2026,” Ossai said on his behalf.
The Governor thanked citizens for their sacrifices and support, assuring that tough decisions taken by his administration were necessary to reposition the state.
“What we try to do is to put Enugu on a reversible path of greatness. What we try to do is to ensure that Enugu will not compete with Nigeria or within Nigeria,” he said.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the administration has pursued an extensive urban development agenda through the New Enugu Smart City, environmental sustainability, and urban renewal.
He added that the state’s fiscal architecture was overhauled with revenue automation, IRS reforms, Treasury Single Account, and enterprise resource planning.
Onyia also listed investments in youth empowerment, women development, technology, skills acquisition, social protection, tourism and community development.
“Behind every project is a community; behind every policy is a citizen; and behind every statistic is a human being whose life government seeks to improve,” he said.
“Sustainable development requires not only projects that citizens can see, but institutions and systems that can sustain those projects,” he added.
The event drew political, traditional and religious leaders who commended the scale of projects.
Dr. Ben Nwoye, APC Deputy National Chairman South, praised the administration’s development record.
Speaker Hon. Uchenna Ugwu pledged the House of Assembly’s continued support.
Igwe Samuel Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, said:
“We have never had it so good. It is not about party. But let us give the job to those who understand the job. The governor wants to move the Enugu State economy to a $30bn economy and that is exactly what he is doing.”
Chief of Staff Victor Udeh described the compendium as “an evidence-based publication and a commitment to accountability.”
With the unveiling, the Mbah administration has set the tone for its re-election campaign, framing the first term as a foundation for transforming Enugu into a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.
