A 42-year-old father drowned after rescuing his three children who were struggling in a river on Wednesday, August 2nd.
The 42-year-old South River, New Jersey, US homeowner saved the lives of his three children, ages eight, eleven, and thirteen when they fell into the Millstone River and “became distressed,” but he sadly drowned, according to Franklin Township police.
A bystander dialled 911 shortly before 2:15 p.m., and emergency personnel rushed into the water but were unable to locate the children’s father.
The children were treated at the site by medics and released without additional medical attention, according to authorities.
At around 5:30 p.m., a dive team from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office recovered the father’s body from the river.
The identity of the father was not immediately publicized as authorities worked to notify family members of his death.
The drowning is being investigated by Franklin police.
Just last month, two more fathers drowned while rescuing children from different bodies of water on Lake Michigan and Lake Nockamixon in the United States.
