Judge Suspends Justin Timberlake’s License Over Drink-Drive Arrest

Justin Timberlake’s driver’s license was suspended by a New York judge during a virtual court hearing on Long Island.

Timberlake entered a not-guilty plea to operating a vehicle while drunk. He was taken into custody on June 18, by the police after they claimed he ran a stop sign and swerved out of his lane. During the remote arraignment, the former member of Nsync, who is currently touring Europe, did not say much.

Edward Burke Jr., Timberlake’s attorney, has insisted that the charge ought to be dismissed and that Timberlake was not intoxicated.

“The facts remain he was not intoxicated,” Mr Burke said on Friday, according to Newsday.

“I’ll say it again: Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated and we’re very confident that charge, that criminal charge, will be dismissed.”

Judge Carl Irace of Sag Harbor Village revoked Timberlake’s license and threatened to place Mr. Burke under a gag order, citing the lawyer’s improper remarks made to the media.

Mr. Burke claimed the initial charging sheet should be discarded because it did not have a sergeant’s signature, which caused the case to be postponed.

According to Ashley Cangro, the assistant district attorney, fresh paperwork was submitted on July 2 and ought to remedy that error. According to court documents, Timberlake was stopped by an officer at around 12.30 am while driving a BMW in the affluent coastal town of Sag Harbor, who discovered he was inebriated.

The court documents stated that the defendant had bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong alcoholic beverage odor coming from his breath, difficulty dividing his focus, delayed speech, unsteadiness when walking, and poor performance on all standardized field sobriety tests.

According to the documents, the 43-year-old told the officer he was going home with some friends after having one martini. After being taken into custody, he was held overnight at a police station.

The next hearing is set for August 9; if something happens during that Friday’s hearing, a provisional court date of September 13 will follow.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
