Man De@d, Wife Hospitalised After Inhaling Generator Fumes

Nwachuku Ikechukwu, a man, died and his wife was hospitalized after inhaling generator fumes at their home in the Shogoye neighborhood of Owode-Egba, Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of Ogun State.

According to reports, Ikechukwu and his wife, Oyin Falodun, turned on the generator in their sitting room at 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 19.

A neighbour, Oladayo Olasubomi, who went to the residence to remit the wife’s N1000 daily payment saw the couple lying down, unconscious.

Olasubomi raised the alarm, attracting the attention of other neighbours, including the community’s Chairman, Showunmi Sunday, who reported the event to the state police command’s Owode-Egba division.

Police officers investigated the situation and discovered no signs of violence on the dead.

SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed this in a statement to press on Saturday, September 21.

Odutola stated that Ikechukwu died, while his wife, who was taken to the hospital, eventually recovered consciousness and revealed what had occurred.

The wife was quoted to have explained, “That when it was 2200hrs of 19/09/2024 she asked her husband whether she could put off the generating engine they were using to power their fans in their bedroom but her husband told her not to do so until when the two of them slept off.

“That the generator must have wreaked the havoc that befell them before it put itself off when the fuel inside it finished.”

She went on to say that she later discovered that both of them had fallen from their beds, with her late husband struggling to get out of bed before falling.

Ikechukwu’s body has been taken to the General Hospital in Owode-Egba for an autopsy, while Falodun is being treated at Ore Ofe Hospital in Owode-Egba.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
