The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named Eric Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles.
On Tuesday, January 7, the NFF released a statement announcing the appointment of the Malian tactician.
The decision was made following the advice of the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee, which met in Abuja on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Chelle, 47, is a former head coach of Mali’s senior national team who has previously led clubs including GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran.
During his career in France, he played for Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.
Chelle, who was born in Côte d’Ivoire to a French father and a Malian mother, was eligible to represent the country as well as France and Mali. He chose Mali, garnering five caps before retiring.
Chelle, Mali’s head coach from 2022 to 2024, guided the Aiglons to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Mali won 14 games, drew five, and lost three during his tenure.
