Inappropriate usage of vacuum pumps can result in tissue damage, and research is currently ongoing to determine the advantages of traction devices.

Furthermore, manual methods like jelqing may cause harm and have no medical proof of their effectiveness. Unless absolutely required, as in the case of micropenis, doctors typically advise against penile enlargement treatments.
