Actor Mofe Duncan Of Nollywood Responds To Body Shaming Comments On Instagram

Famous Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan used Instagram to confront remarks made about his weight that were meant to belittle him, as well as to share his own hardships and challenge unfavorable opinions.

Duncan answered a netizen who said that because of his stature, he was unfit to be called handsome in an open post. The actress brought attention to the widespread problem of body shaming in the entertainment business and how it affects people personally.

“So this guy @iamadeogooluwayimika said I’m not allowed on the list of the most handsome men in Nigeria because I’m BIG. LOL! Comments like these brush off me like a leaf falling from a tree, ZERO IMPACT. ZERO DAMAGE,” Duncan wrote in his Instagram caption.

“Did it affect me years ago? Yes. Does it affect me now? Never. Has it affected my acting or my career? I’d let my movies speak for me. What about my personality? Never. Or my health? Nope,”

“The thing is… this post ain’t for me or about me, it’s for others like me who get BODY SHAMED or called ‘UNPRETTY’ because they’re larger than their peers,”

Body shaming can trigger or worsen existing symptoms of anxiety and depression.  Body shaming involves humiliating someone by making inappropriate or negative comments about their body size or shape. As well as “fat shaming,” you may also hear negative comments if you’re underweight or in reference to a specific body part.
