In the Abanwan-Erei community of Biase Local Government Area, more than 500 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a blow to the APC in Cross River State.
Barr. Bassey O. Bassey, also known as BOB, the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives, and Pastor Hon. Obia Ikika, the candidate for the House of Assembly, accepted the mass defection on Saturday.
Barr, welcome to the defectors. Bassey praised their choice as “bold and patriotic,” claiming it reflects the people’s aspiration for true democratic renewal.
“We commend your courage and political maturity. This is a statement that the people are tired of failed promises. In the PDP, you will get equal recognition, active involvement, and full integration,” he said.
Barr. Bassey assured the new members that he remains committed to championing their interests at the National Assembly if elected.
On his part, Pastor Ikika described the defection as “a clear verdict by the people” rejecting failed leadership.
“The people have spoken. They are embracing a party that prioritizes welfare, development, and the aspirations of the citizenry,” he said. He pledged legislative excellence and grassroots development if elected into the State House of Assembly.
Speaking as well, PDP State Financial Secretary Dr. Chris Edadi credited grassroots mobilization and teamwork for the wave of defections. As the party gets ready for the general election, he asked members to maintain their unity.
“Welcome to all of our new members. According to Edadi, the PDP provides everyone with equal opportunities and a level playing field.
Mrs. Rose Stephen, the Chapter Woman Leader, the Chapter Chairman, the Ward Leader, and other party members attended the reception.
Congratulations to the PDP on their successful gains in Cross River. It is a significant development that reflects the shifting political landscape in the region. Meanwhile, APC should take this opportunity to put their house in order, address internal issues, and work towards regaining the trust and support of the people in Cross River.
