Arik Air Boeing 737-7GL Makes Emergency Landing in Benin Due to Engine Failure

An Arik Air Boeing 737-7GL aircraft, registration 5N-MJF, experienced an engine failure mid-air and made an emergency diversion to Benin Airport on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The aircraft, operating flight W3 740 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, detected abnormal indications on one of its engines, prompting a precautionary shutdown and diversion to Benin.

The plane landed safely, and all 80 passengers and crew members disembarked without injury. Preliminary observations indicate significant damage to the affected engine. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into the incident, working closely with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Arik Air.
