Kowiu Oloyede, a 25-year-old tailor who was detained by the Ogun State Police Command for posting fictitious bandit attack videos on TikTok, claims he made the content to gain popularity, much like streamer Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller.
Oloyede, who resides in Ogun State’s Atan-Ota neighborhood, was taken into custody after sharing videos alleging that bandits had broken into the neighborhood.
In one of the videos, gunshots could be heard in the background as he and two other people hid in a bush.
The clip was captioned, “Bandit is in Atan, help us ooo.”
In another video, he appeared kneeling beside a Fulani herder while claiming he had been kidnapped.
Speaking in a video interview shared by the police on Tuesday, Oloyede admitted that the videos were staged to attract followers on TikTok.
“I was scrolling TikTok one day when I saw the bandit sound and I saw people using that sound. That is why I also used it to gain followers because the likes of Peller started somewhere.”

Oloyede also said the Fulani herder featured in the second video was not involved in any criminal activity.

According to the police, the suspecthas been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
No matter the circumstances we find ourselves in, we should always remain genuine and trust God to bless the work of our hands. Faking it to gain recognition or fame may seem tempting, but it can lead to disastrous consequences.
