August 27th: Weekly Catch-Up On Naija’s Political Drama: Shettima And His Oversized Suit; Reno Compares Obi To Satan; Nigerians Spending Their Money To Support Peter Obi; Others
Kashim shettima, the former governor of Borno State, was trending on social media after showing up at the NBA convention with an oversized suit and sneakers.
Shettima, who is the running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, decided not to put on his traditional attire, which he is known for but instead chose to appear in baggy suit.
This sparked reactions from Nigerian youths who started a #ShettimaChallenge, replicating the senator’s dressing to mock him.
People also questioned why Tinubu was absent given that the presidential candidates of the PDP and Labour Party were present.
Days after the event, Shettima came out to explain the reason for his outfit.
According to him, he got intel that a certain presidential candidate has planned “mischief” against him, so he wore the sneakers in case he needed to run. However, he didn’t explain the reason for the baggy suit which could slow him down when he starts running.
In a video, Shettima said, “I was in Lagos for the NBA conference. The conference was held in Eko Hotels. It was largely funded by the Lagos State Government, the APC government of Lagos State. Subsequently, they moved to Eko Atlantic City, a product of an idea conceived by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“When I sent my recce team, it was learnt that one of the presidential candidates’ team held meetings for three consecutive nights to commit mischief. I was told it was a hostile crowd… I’m a banker, trained by one of the best bankers in the world. I’m a Jim Ovia boy. I deliberately wore sneakers to the NBA to swam at them.”
“You Are Like Satan Speaking Against Sin,” Reno Omokri Attacks Peter Obi.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) has come under fire for insisting that if elected, Nigeria must transition from a consumption-based to a production-based economy.
Obi has been demanding that Nigeria’s economy be rebuilt as soon as possible so that Nigerians can flourish and enjoy themselves.
However, Reno Omokri, a human rights cashivist, contrasted Obi’s campaign with Satan preaching against sin.
Omokri said that the LP presidential candidate was Nigeria’s leading importer of consumer goods.
In a series of tweets, Omokri stated that Obi imports beer and alcoholic beverages despite speaking of making Nigeria a producer.
“Yet, he campaigns on turning Nigeria from consumption to production? It is like Satan campaigning against sin!
“Enter any major supermarket in Nigeria. At least 15% of what you will see was imported into Nigeria by @PeterObi. Not manufactured.
“IMPORTED. If I am lying, I challenge Peter to sue me. And this is the fellow who wants to move Nigeria from consumption to production?”

Nigerians Blast Festus Keyamo For Intentionally Posting Fake News.
Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has been criticized online for spreading false information regarding Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who also serves as the presidential spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC), took to Twitter to publish a piece of news stating that Obi has agreed to clear the way for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, to emerge.
This left many confused as to what people who were seen as icons and role models have turned into overnight just for the sake of their bellies.
Keyamo wrote, “We told the OBIdient soldiers that their ‘hero’ was taking them to nowhere; taking them for a ride of the century and for political 419! We laugh! We are ahead of them!”
