Ten farmers were among the numerous victims killed by bandits in Taraba State’s Ussa Local Government Area and Yangtu Development Area who are thought to be herdsmen.
On Friday, November 24, 2023, the victims were slain in two different attacks on communities in Ussa LGA and Yangtu, according to Mr. Ure Caleb, a public affairs analyst and youth leader.
At approximately six o’clock in the evening, the gunmen assaulted and killed nine individuals in the Rubur Ribasi, Nyicwu, and Ruwah Communities of the Yangtu Special Development Area, according to Mr. Peter Shamwun, the chairman of the Ussa Local Government Council.
Shamwun claimed that several people were slain when the bandits besieged the Takum-Ussa Road. The robbers also attacked the Kpambo Yashe hamlet in Ussa Local Government, resulting in one fatality and other injuries.
Ten farmers were slain en route to their farms, according to SP Abdullahi Usman, the State Police Command spokeswoman.
He further said that the event happened on Friday morning at around 7 am in the Jenuwa Gida area of Takum LGA and that it was reported two hours later.
He clarified that the attackers made off following the assault, mentioning that Joseph Eribo, the Commissioner of Police, had given the order for an anti-kidnapping squad to be sent to the scene right away.
“The victims who are all members of the Kuteb ethnic group, were identified as Hope Hassan, Rimamsomtse Lamadi, Holiness Enoch, Rimamtsiki Enoch, Egwu Hassan, Saleh Kyatiki, Ephraim Atenji, Manasseh Atenji, and Hassan Songure,” he said.
“The Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo, has ordered the immediate deployment of an anti-kidnapping team to the area,” he added.
