The internet can be a fantastic place to connect with friends, meet new people and discover new things and be creative. Yet, it is also not a safe place to trust anyone.

A Canadian teen who traveled to the U.K. to share her faith with her boyfriend who she met Online has been found dead in Chelmsford, England. Police have confirmed that her boyfriend is responsible for killing her after he was found with his phone laying in bed next to her body.

Ashley Wadsworth, 19, who had never left Canada before flying to the UK was on a six-month tourist visa to meet Jack Sepple, an online friend.

After flying to the UK in November, things seemed to be going well. According to Yahoo! News, Wadsworth posted photos on her Facebook of her and Sepple visiting tourist spots, having dinners, and smiling at the camera.

But things turned tragic on Tuesday when Wadsworth’s body was found in Sepple’s bed. She had been stabbed to death.

Sepple was arrested and charged with murder after neighbors contacted police after hearing a disturbance in the home. When police arrived at the scene, they found Wadsworth dead, according to CBC News.

According to BBC News, Sepple did not enter a plea and only confirmed his name, address, and date of birth. Authorities have not released a motive in the case but Sepple has been remanded to custody until his next hearing.

It’s very risky to completely feel free and trust an online friend. Remember that people you have met online are still strangers, no matter how long you have been talking to them or how friendly they are. Meeting up with these people can be dangerous.

Stay safe out there!
