CAF Slams Fresh Sanctions Against Libya

The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has been hit with new sanctions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

A $20,000 fine and two forthcoming private matches due to a separate incident are among the new penalties.

The most recent sanctions follow Libya’s appeal against CAF’s original ruling, which gave Nigeria three points and three goals following an airport incident involving the visitors in Libya.

Remember that on October 15, on matchday four of the AFCON qualification series, the Super Eagles and Libya were supposed to play the Libyan team at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, Benghazi. However, the Nigerian team was kept “hostage” for more than 20 hours without food or drink after their plane touched down at the Al Abaq airport.

Later, the Super Eagles would be asked to return home when the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced their withdrawal from the qualifying match.

A $50,000 punishment and a forfeited match resulted from CAF’s decision that Libya had broken multiple rules in managing the arrival of the Nigerian team. However, Libya quickly appealed, attempting to overturn the Nigerian victory.

Nigeria’s football organization received yet another penalty as they sought to appeal CAF’s decision in their favor.

Due to violent actions during a recent encounter, another Libyan team was fined $20,000 and mandated to play their next two games behind closed doors.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
