Chad To Scrap Visa Requirements For African Citizens From January 2027

Chad announces plans to allow visa-free entry for all African citizens from January 2027 as part of efforts to promote continental integration.Chad has announced plans to abolish entry visa requirements for citizens of all African countries, with the new policy set to take effect from January 1, 2027.Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision was aimed at strengthening unity among African countries and promoting greater freedom of movement across the continent.

According to the president, removing visa restrictions would help make the movement of people and goods within Africa more practical.

The move places Chad among a growing number of African countries adopting policies aimed at easing travel for citizens of other African nations.

Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo have also introduced visa-free or visa-exemption arrangements for African travellers.

Togo announced in May that African citizens with valid passports could enter the country without obtaining a visa.

Chad’s planned policy is expected to further ease travel restrictions for Africans visiting the Central African nation and contribute to broader efforts towards regional integration.
