Court Sentences BRT Driver To Death For Killing Bamise

Andrew Ominikoron, a driver for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), has been condemned to death by hanging for the murder of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, age 22, by Lagos State High Court Justice Sherifat Sonaike, who is seated in the Tafawa Balewa Square Annexe.

In relation to the killing of Ayanwola, the s*xual assault of Dr. Anosike Victoria, and the rape of Maryland Ojiezelu, Ominikoron was charged with five counts that bordered on murder, conspiracy, and rape.

“For the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy upon you,” the judge declared in her pronouncement.

The Lagos State Government, the case’s prosecutor, was found to have effectively proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt by Justice Sonaike in his ruling on Friday.

However, he entered a not guilty plea to every charge. The convicted individual was put on trial for a five-count charge that included s*xual assault, rape, murder, and conspiracy.

According to the charges, the incident occurred on February 26, 2022, around 7 pm, near the Lekki-Ajah Conservation Centre, Lekki-Ajah Expressway, Lagos.

The prosecution said that Ominikoron had forcibly had s*xual intercourse with Oluwabamise Ayanwole before murdering her.

The offences contravene Sections 411, 223, 260, and 165 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
