Court Stops Kano Anti-Corruption Agency, From Arresting Ganduje

A federal high court in Kano state has issued an interim injunction preventing the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) and the police from detaining former state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The PCACC had invited Ganduje for questioning the next week after taking action to prosecute him over a video showing him reportedly accepting bundles of cash from contractors, which he allegedly tucked into his traditional clothing, the “babanriga”. The former governor reportedly asked the contractors who recorded the video for $5 million in bribes, according to a story in the Daily Nigerian.

However, after filing a petition with the federal supreme court on Friday, July 7, Justice A.M. Liman issued an interim order that would be in force until his substantive case was heard and decided.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Attorney-General of Kano are additional parties barred from pursuing action against Ganduje.
