DIRECT ATTACK ON JUSTICE: NBA Demands Immediate Release Of Abducted Kebbi Judge
The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court, calling it a dangerous assault on the judiciary and the rule of law.
The judge was reportedly kidnapped by suspected armed bandits from his residence in *Bunza Local Government Area* of Kebbi State.
In a statement issued by NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, the association described the incident as “not only an assault on the person of Justice Bunza but a direct attack on the Nigerian judiciary, the administration of justice, and the rule of law.”
Osigwe said attacks on judicial officers undermine public confidence in the justice system and threaten judicial independence.
“The Nigerian Bar Association condemns the abduction of Honourable Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza… by suspected armed bandits,” the statement read.
The NBA called for the judge’s *immediate and unconditional release* and urged security agencies to deploy every available resource to secure his freedom unharmed.
It specifically called on the *Inspector-General of Police, DG of DSS, National Security Adviser*, and other relevant agencies to intensify efforts to rescue Justice Bunza and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The association also urged the *Kebbi State Government* to collaborate closely with federal security agencies to ensure his safe release and prosecution of those responsible.
The NBA expressed concern over what it described as the “growing boldness of criminal elements” targeting institutions and officials of the justice system.
It stressed the need for improved security arrangements for judicial officers nationwide, saying judges must be protected to enable them to discharge their duties without fear or intimidation.
The association extended thoughts and prayers to Justice Bunza, his family, colleagues on the Bench, and the entire Kebbi State judiciary, expressing hope for his safe and immediate release.
