DSS Arraigns Two For Alleged Terrorism And For Canvassing For Coup

Two individuals were brought by the Department of State Services (DSS) before different Federal High Courts located in Abuja facing charges connected to terrorism and purported attempts to incite the overthrow of the government, merely a couple of days following the successful obtainment of a conviction against ISWAP leader Hussaini Ismaila, who was handed down a prison term of 20 years.

Regarding the initial matter, the DSS presented Abdulmalik Abdulazeez Obadaki in court, charging him with orchestrating the assault in 2012 on the Deeper Life Bible Church situated in Okene, within Kogi State. He has been hit with a charge consisting of six counts that encompass being part of a terrorist organization, engaging in conspiracy, providing support to acts of terrorism, withholding relevant information, taking part in actions related to terrorism, and fleeing from legal detention. Obadaki admitted guilt solely to the charge of fleeing from custody while rejecting all the other accusations. Justice Joyce Obehi postponed the proceedings until January 26, 2026, in order to examine the details backing the admission of guilt and to hear testimony concerning the charges that he disputed.

Additionally brought forward for arraignment was Innocent Chukwuemeka, who stands accused of utilizing his account on X to promote the idea of a coup taking place in Nigeria. He is confronted with six counts involving the dissemination of untrue details that could provoke alarm among the public as well as cyberstalking. Chukwuemeka entered a plea of not guilty, after which the court postponed his trial until January 26, 2026, while directing that he be kept under DSS detention.

The history of Obadaki has for a long time been associated with major incidents of violent assaults. Following the murders at the church in Okene, it is thought that he directed a group which carried out raids on five banks operating commercially in Uromi, located in Edo State, resulting in the deaths of multiple individuals and the getaway with substantial amounts of cash. He remained incarcerated in Kuje Prison up to the prison break that occurred in July 2022, at which point he managed to escape. According to security sources, following his relocation from Kabba Custodial Centre during June 2022, he subsequently admitted to planning the entire jailbreak operation.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
